By Sydney Masters, NYC, NY:
The lights went off at 8:07 precisely and a giant double screen on stage showed a rather cheesy intro film of Angus running a wreck train, with 2 hot chicks barely dressed teasing him, the whole thing coming to a climax when the train actually appears on stage behind the drum kit, in the form of a real-size locomotive bearing the AC/DC logo!
A predictable intro with Rock N Roll Train, arguably the best track of the new album, a killer riff and chorus made for the stage, quite powerful.
Now it may have been sound problems during the first track, but it took the second track, Hell Ain't A Bad Place To Be, to bring back the band we've missed for 5 years on stage.
The guys look ageless. Even Phil, with long hair back, still chain smoking behind the cymbals. As on the album, Brian is in absolute top form, reaching those high notes with an ease not heard in decades. If Angus doesn't move like the maniac he was in the 70's, tonight's concert definitely proves to anyone who doubted it that he's still one of the top performer around today. Still dulk-walking, spinning around on the platform at the end of the catwalk on Let There Be Rock. Took him 3 numbers to lose his cap but the sweat is still there nonetheless. Nothing to say that you haven't heard about the rhythm section. Just as solid as they ever were. Malcolm/Cliff/Phil - this trio is like an indestructible brick wall.
In just over 75 minutes, the band delivered a formidable set of 10 classics, with two songs from Black Ice, R&R Train and the title track. This was evidently a partial set list, and you can be assured that other classics like The Jack, Hard As A Rock and Shoot To Thrill will be included on the opening night Tuesday, as will certainly Big Jack, War Machine and Anything Goes from the new album. Hopefully so will an old classic or two not played in ages.
One could've expected that the guys could not and would not deliver as they did 5 or 7 years ago, and make excuses for them - are they still relevant on stage? Hell yeah...
Overall an unsurprising show, but that's exactly what the fans want. It could've been the 3rd leg of the 2001 US tour.
Go see them. Don't miss this tour. It could be the very last time...

This is the 1st time I have gotten to see them and what a blast I had. All the way from Norcal to NYC to PA. for AC-DC. I sat 5th row floor (or should I say I was standing 5 rows from the stage. I have to say this is the best concert I have ever gone to. I won the grand prize from our kick ass rocker station here in the bay area. (you know who you are). Thanks for putting on a stellar gig. AC-DC sounds better than ever I can't wait to see them in Oakland in December.
