By Alan Chapman, Castlemaine:
I played bass guitar for a band named Maverick which was a support band at this concert. I can recall talking with Angus after the concert and being amazed at how knackered he was and totally drenched in sweat. I suppose I would have a biased opinion of that day, but the effort they put in was absolutely amazing especially Bon Scott. I have constantly said to my friends how I could have had my bass guitar signed by the boys but never even thought of it on the day, but I still have the great memories of the concert, the only recognition I have of that day is a poster which is of great sentiment to me.

By Glenn Braybrook, Castlemaine:
There has only been one time when AC/DC played in Castlemaine. I know, because my band supported them and it was us who got the local council to help bring them here. Alan Chapman, who was our bass player at that time also has done a review of this gig. Our lead guitarist back then was a local Castlemaine lad called John Beer. He had seen AC/DC in Melbourne and had bought their record, "High Voltage" in late 1975. We played the grooves off it and when we were asked to help plan a gig here in Castlemaine, we were asked what band we would like. Of course we said AC/DC. The gig was on a back of a truck at the Camp Reserve, our show grounds! Our band spent quite a lot of time talking to Angus Young, who said the band was shortly leaving for England, and that they were going to be huge! Malcom was tuning the guitars on our amps, he remarked how awful they sounded haha. Bon arrived with a few groupies and was drinking Stones Green Ginger wine. The show was brilliant, Bon swinging from scaffold on the stage. I remember he had trouble with some strange looking electric bag pipes.. they didn't work! During a new song of theirs on the new Album "TNT" ..It was something our little band will never forget, playing with what was to become the biggest band in the World!

By Glenn Williams, Castlemaine Victoria Australia:
The Day AC/DC came to town.
I have recently been doing a fair bit of reminiscing after the death of a good friend John French. John was something of a legend in the Australian recording world. I was fortunate enough to do a radio show with John and Pete Dawson every Monday at 4PM on 94.9MAINfm for 18 months. I mentioned the AC/DC event a number of times but we never went anywhere with it. On Thursday the 26th October I went along to the book launch for "SUNBURY" by Peter Evens a fascinating history of the 4 years of the most amazing concerts. One of the sad stories from out of the final Sunbury 1975 was AC/DC missing out on playing due to Deep Purple over playing. It was a very sad yet telling moment. Next we would see them on the back of a truck playing as they rolled down Swanston Street Melbourne Vic. I wasn't there that day but do remember seeing it on Countdown. Only a few weeks later it was rumoured that AC/DC were coming to town, Castlemaine. Both my brother Dale and myself were into the music of AC/DC and like everyone fascinated by their antics. We quickly purchased tickets and with many others awaited the big day. I was too young to drive and even though I was in some serious trouble due to a monumental mistake our parents who were still unhappy with me found it in them to take us along to what we believed would be the biggest thing ever to hit Castlemaine. We weren't wrong. The local boys really turned it on, "Maverick", they were into the rock scene and played every opportunity they could. Like I said they didn't disappoint even though they were probably overwhelmed by who was waiting out back. The whole thing was on the back of big truck, scaffolding, speakers, backdrop the lot. There was a bit of a break after the local boys played their heart out. I remember the crowd being big but we all crammed as close as we could to the truck which was down the change room end of the ground. Finally we the heard the intro and then it was all over way to soon. It's over 40 years since that day and time has a way of fading memories, nonetheless we were there and remember the event as one great day. They played and played and carried on just like we hoped. Bon was fond of a personal favourite Green Ginger Wine and regularly took mouthfuls which I never understood as that drink had a way of making my throat so very sore. Bon Scott climbed the scaffolding and somehow sung upside down. Angus Young was racing back and forth as he ripped out those classic riffs he is now so famous for. Everything about the event was as it should be, loud oh so loud and as promised by the boys from Maverick better live than in studio. I and I know I speak for my brother and friends had the best time, we were in a crowd of Castlemaine kids feeling like this was all just for us. I recall a bearded short bloke from the council, he was the towns first Youth officer or something like that. I may be wrong about this but believe he had something to do with helping the boys from Maverick bring the band to our town. I may have missed Sunbury but so did AC/DC well so to speak but thanks to a bunch of local lads and an open minded council we got to see the band who we all knew were on the way to becoming the biggest in the world. It would be great to hear from others who were there as believe me it all disappears so quickly That was a very special time for Castlemaine and one of the first things provided solely for the youth of this area. What's more it only happened once and can never happen again. If you have memories photos or posters of this event please share them as a way of remembering and respecting a very important event in our lives, The Biggest Thing Ever to Hit Castlemaine. Regards Glenn.
