They look a lot older but they sound as good as ever.
Granted, Brian can't hit the high notes -- notably on "Shoot to Thrill" -- like he could in 1980. But I don't know that he was hitting them all that well when I saw them for the first time in 1985 at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit.
My oldest brother, Jay (who took me to see the band that time in Detroit 24 years ago when I was 13), joined me at the show last night Grand Rapids, MI. He marveled at how good they sounded, as did I.
Just because Brian can't hit sustained high notes anymore really doesn't matter. His lower register is where he sings the best and, overall, he sounded just fine. Even better, he looked like he was having a ball, smiling wide grins, running around as much as Angus and slapping as many hands in the audience as he could. What he may have lost in vocal power since 1980 he has more than made up for in showmanship.
It was the first time I'd seen the band since April 2001 at the United Center in Chicago.
There's not a whole lot more to say other than it was a great, great show. Predictable, yes. I knew what I was getting when I walked in (song-wise -- although it was wonderful to hear "Hell Ain't a Bad Place to Be" and "Dog Eat Dog" -- and the band delivered.
Brian, who rarely says much during the concerts, had one great quote while Angus was soloing before the start of The Jack.
"That boy's got the devil in his fingers and rock 'n' roll in his soul," Brian said.
Throughout the show, the guy standing behind us kept yelling, "What a great band!" and "Thank you! Thank you!" He seemed so genuinely appreciative to see such a spectacle.
Indeed, as we were pulling out of the parking ramp at the end of the night, I told my brother, "You may never see anything like that again."
It truly is amazing that the same five guys who recorded "Back in Black" 29 years ago are still touring as a strong, tight unit.
This was the eighth time I'd seen the band live. If it turns out to be the last, I'll know they went out on top.

This was the third stop on AC/DC's Black Ice tour (Detroit 11-5-08 and Cleveland 1-5-09) and it was also the best. These old men are the hardest rockin' geezers you'll ever see. Angus made a minor goof in the into of Thunderstruck but nobody cared because he is the one and only ANGUS! They played the same set they've been playing since they started their European tour but it was amazing. Let There Be Rock and the solo was sweet and some of the confetti stuck to Angus' sweat, TNT had exploding flames and the cannons shot off at the end during For Those About To Rock(as they always have). AC/DC I salute you I hope you NEVER stop rockin!!!
