I was lucky enough to have been at one of those Sydney Chequers gigs in Dec 1973 (I was 17). Me and a mate decided to jump on to a red rattler (a train) from Lakemba in to central to experience some quality Australian rock that Chequers provided at that time. Actually my parents had been there a few years beforehand seeing Shirley Bassey. It used to be an upmarket nightclub for the oldies in the 60's before it became the place of seminal dirty rock and roll. I actually was there a few weeks ago and it is now a Chinese rub an tug (brothel) somehow appropriate hey? But back to the gig, I don't remember the setlist but I do remember how awesome the band that would become AC/DC sounded. You could tell they were something special...they rocked like hell...played at warp 10....It was rather surreal seeing such a show in a venue that provided table service drinks to the half booth tables complete with candles and plenty of space. There wasn't many people there....it was incredible...we couldn't believe our luck...my mate neale and I coudn't have picked a better first gig to go to....we also went to their gig in 1974 at Victoria park near Sydney Uni... which was unbelievable...They played on top of the baths building.... Bon and Angus were going off.....jumping off the building and taking some crazy risks in the name of rock and roll... I also saw Black sabbath in 1974 at the Hordern....it was the year my hearing was never quite the same....
