By Tim Nicholls, Melbourne:
I was 15 years old at the time and came over to Melbourne with a high school friend. We saw Status Quo (who were a much bigger group at the time) and AC/DC in the same week at the same venue. AC/DC were much more memorable.
What do I remember? The opening cords of Live Wire had me hooked from the start; Bon Scott's charisma - he was a great showman; I remember doing some weird dance that involved moving your arse from left to right in time with the person next to you; and the "sharpies". Anyone from Melbourne of a certain age will remember the sharpie phenomenon. There were many gangs in Melbourne. They had skin head haircuts but with a long bit at the back - the precursor to the mullet, I believe. Anyway, Flinders St. station was full of them that night and my program of the tour was "borrowed" by one gentleman and passed around the train carriage, in which we were the only long hairs. I did get it back surprisingly but unfortunately no longer have it. Saw on e-bay recently one going for $1500.
Anyway, for me that period is the golden period of the band. I still have the first five Australian LPs in my vinyl collection.
Long live rock n roll.
