  • Brian Johnson works on new musical "Helen of Troy" - 4/21/02
  • In collaboration with Robert de Warren, the artistic director of the Sarasota Ballet, Brian Johnson has written a musical entitled "Helen of Troy,"based on the Greek myhtology.
Brian, who wrote the music and lyrics with British composer and actor Brendan Healy, described the musical as a "poignant and funny love story set against the Trojan War." Brian also added "I'm interested in mythology and history, especially military history, I must admit that the only part of the 'Iliad' that I read was about the siege of Troy. I love musical theater, especially the classic stuff... It's just me trying something new."
The production is cheduled to premiere in March 2003 at Sarasota's Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall.
Read an article about the musical in the Sarasota Tribune.
